Muddy Playtime

It's rainy season. Yes, it is. The sky is cloudy, the road is wet and the playground near our housing area is all muddy and dirty. But that doesn't stop us from bringing our son to play! He loves the slide. He has been talking and requesting to us to bring him to play the slide for a few weeks now. Luckily today is a holiday and the weather this morning looks pretty nice to go out for a play at the playground, (also husband has been saying he needed a jog) so we brought him out to play! Look at this happy face!

Happy? or not?

Dirty shoes. But it's okay. At least you're having fun!

Cheaper Food at Gourmessa by Pok Brothers, Glenmarie

Husband and I took leave today to settle off some errands that we have been postponing. It has been a very great and productive day today. Let's see what we did today
  1. We managed to get the GL (guarantee letter) from Proton (husband's employee) for ante-natal checkup and delivery at PPUM.
  2. We managed to book for delivery at PPUM. They only accept bookings for delivery after 7 months of pregnancy (unless for special cases with doctor's referral note).
  3. We managed to set an appointment for the 3D scan at Klinik Ajwa, Section 7. Going for my scan on December 6th 2013. Hoping to see my baby's gender more clearly with the scan (as well as to monitor baby's development clearly) Since we did one for Shareese last time, I think it's fair we do it for all our children. :)
  4.  We (finally) managed to open up a savings account for Shareese. Took us long enough. He's already two and a half years old and we have been keeping all his money we got from relatives and friends in a box on the top shelf. (.-.) Talk about security. haha...ha... So anyways, that's done!
  5. We did our usual grocery shopping
  6. And after a long time of planning and wanting to pay a visit here, we finally made it to GOURMESSA.
Entrance Gate to Gourmessa

So what is Gourmessa? In Malaysia, it's a brand name of the frozen food sold at the grocery store. They mostly sell processed meat like salami, pastrami, ham, breakfast strips, etc. One of the distributor of Gourmessa is POK Brothers. It's warehouse is located in Glenmarie, Shah Alam and my husband's supervisor said that they sell the items so much cheaper here at the warehouse compared to the retails. They not only sell the processed meat here but also other products like dairy, frozen meat, frozen seafood, imported veges, imported canned food and much more at very low price! We bought Beef Pastrami, Turkey Breakfast strips and Chicken ham for roughly RM6 or less each. It gets cheaper if you buy in bulk though. 1kg of beef pepperoni only costs RM30+ (the last time I checked). 1kg is A LOT. We also bought Salmon chunks for RM22 (they sell it for RM45 per kg) and a large dory fillet for RM2.80! (which they normally sell such a size for RM6.50)

Do check out the place if you have time. I'm sure you'll find the place saves a lot of money for you. :p

Oh by the way, their products sold here are all HALAL and certified by JAKIM.

p/s: Did I mention they sell whipping cream, Millac Gold Brand, 1L box for RM10++... :O SUPERCHEAP!

Of Disappointment and Expectations

I've been going for my antenatal checkup at Klinik Soraya section 3 out of recommendation from husband's supervisor/team leader. She said that the dcotors who are doing the check-ups are all female and very kind and helpful towards their patients. My first few visits there was pleasant, up till a point when two of their doctors decided to take a long leave for vacation, only to have just ONE available doctor. ONE. FRIGGIN ONE. My trips there used to only take about 30 ~ 45 minutes tops but lately I have to wait for TWO HOURS (sometimes THREEEEEEE) to just see a doctor for my urine test, blood pressure checkup and the usual ultrasound. Feck... It's worst than going to goverment clinic.

Today is my 28th week checkup. It's a different doctor from my last month checkup, and also different from my usual doctor who have done my first few ultrasounds and confirmed that I am going to have a baby girl. This doctor said my baby is a BOY. lolwhut? BOY? I asked if she was sure because previously the other doctor said my baby is a girl and that she didn't find any signs of neither a penis or a scrotum. She checked again, this time harder and longer. She said she found something "long" (ahahahaha...) and said it might be his penis. Looks like a boy. Hurr...?? I was.. feeling very disappointed because I really wished I am going to have a girl! A pair! She said she will check again next month just to confirm the gender. Yeah...... no.

I'm going for a 3D ultrasound in 2 weeks at Klinik Ajwa, section 7 as how I did for Shareese when I was pregnant with him during my 30th week. Hope to see a better and clearer and more comfirmed images of my baby's gender.

Boy? Or Girl?

; _ ;

Most of my friends says I shouldn't hope too much, as long as he/she is healthy, I should be thankful. Yes, of course but I can't help it. If I wasn't expecting a girl when the first doctor confirmed to me that it's going to be a girl, I wouldn't feel so devastated. *sigh*

Lucky I never bought any girly clothes yet.

Big Bad Wolf 2012

So.. Big Bad Wolf... The Biggest and Baddest Booksale of all time. Atleast 75% discounts on ALL books and up to 95% discounts for selected books. Whoppeeee!!! I have been hearing about BBW (Big Bad Wolf) since last year but I wasn't really sure what it was all about and this year the hype about the sale was crazy. Even my friends whom I never thought would pick up books went there and spent hundreds of ringgit to buy books. The first BBW sale was held back in 2009 at Amcorp Mall and it was organized by the very sweet husband and wife who owns BookXcess. I love everything about BookXcess. They may not have a lot of titles up for sell there (since they only buy overprinted books, and that's the reason why they are able to sell their books so cheap!), but they got most of the non-fiction writers I love. Jodi Picoult especially. Oh Oh! And their kiddy books are really REALLY worth buying. RM19.90 for a kiddy book that can play sounds and music? That's a bargain!

Anyways, back to BBW, The Big Bad Wolf Sale 2012 started on 6th December till 23rd of December (i heard/hope they will prolong their sale if possible) and they opened up their sale with a crazy 63 hour straight of non-stop shopping hour. I didn't manage to go on the first weekend due to the fact that my husband's grandma was sick with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and we spent most of our weekend at his parent's house helping his family in any way possible. I heard the crowd during the first weekend was crazy and packed, and driving there will result you getting stuck in massive traffic jam even in the wee hours of the morning. Ohhkayy....

Lucky for me, they have another 60 hour shopping marathon for the second weekend and I went there at 12am and there was NO JAM! NO CROWD! And i spent more than 4 walking around the exhibition hall scouting for books, books, BOOKS, AND MORE BOOKS!!!! Imagine a big belly 27 weeks pregnant lady walking around with a roller bag full of books in her totoro poncho. (it was quite cold and i wanted to wear it. so,yeah!) I bought books for Shareese. Not baby books, not storybooks, but mostly hardcover non-fiction books like the introduction to the solar system, facts about the earth, rocks, cars, planes, trains. LOL. I know one day he will be very much into these factual books as much as me and my husband was keen and interested in it eventhough we've already turned 26 years old. XD

The reason why I didn't buy much storybooks or fiction books for little one is because he had quite a lot of hand me downs storybook from my mom and aunts. I still haven't cover most of it with him yet and he's pretty much more interested in the interactive e-book on his iPad. Simply because it's more, interactive. : /   Who doesn't love reading books that reads out loud to you with wonderful animations and beautiful songs and encouraging sound effects?

I hope he will love books as much as his parents does.
I will make sure he does. : )

These are our stash of the day for 4.5 hours at BBW 2012.

Left : Shareese's   Middle : MINE!    Right : His
Steal of the day. Thick hardcover animation
artbook of BOLT and BEE MOVIE for
just RM10!!!!!!!!!!
Awesome or what???!!!!
My favourite. The illustrated art is wonderful!

❤❤❤

I will definitely save up and go again for next year's stash!

The Birth of Azzahra

My sister in law has safely gave birth to her third child, and her first daughter (and also the first grand-daughter for my husband's parents) today at 8:01am. Weighing 3.5kg! Alhamdulillah.

Fresh from the womb

Chubby Cheeks!!!

They still haven't decided on her full name yet. Brother in law have three names in mind, Damia Azzahra, Alia Azzahra and Husna Azzahra. My vote goes to Husna Azzahra. : )  Less commonly heard and I think it's more uniquely special compared to Damia or Alia. We'll see what's his pick.

Can't wait for my little girl to arrive. >v<

My Neighbour Totoro Cloak!

I have been wanting the cute Totoro costume for toddlers.(pictures are from http://youandmie.wordpress.com/) But most of the site I found either doesn't sell it (means they are only just for show), or is really damn ridiculously expensive. (Talk about RM400 for a costume for toddlers. Not within my budget. 9_9) So there I was talking to my friend June about wanting to get this costume, and for some reason she managed to find an AFFORDABLE totoro hoodie on ebay! Not for toddlers though, and it's not really a hoodie but more like a cloak/poncho/snuggie.

FINALLY GOT MY HANDS ON THIS!!!!!!!!!!
 (more pictures here)
OAIJDSLKAFLKAJGKSLAJDALKJFGOAIGJHOUADSLJSFS!!!!
(yeap that's ugly ol'me)

*sniff* The material is really soft! Made out of fleece!! FLEECE!! WARM AND FUZZY FLEEEEEECE!!!!! *snuggles snuggles* And best of all it's just RM70 (when June helped me buy it on ebay. Sorry couldn't find the link on ebay anymore. hmm...) I am gonna use this as my nursing cover. :3 Yesh~~ I will! So happy!!! Thankyou for helping me buy, June!!! <3

Online Shopping Stash

So I was browsing through the web for an online shop that sells nursing wears (that can also be used during maternity period) and nursing bras. The bras I have currently aren't really that comfortable anymore (yay bigger boobies thanx to pregnancy hormones) and I don't think I should spend money buying just new bigger sized bras. I should invest on some good nursing bras. since I want to fully breastfeed my second child. I wasn't able to do that for Shareese due to several reasons. One of the main reason was because my milk supply isn't enough and my nipples were cracking like crazy. One time when I was nursing, blood was coming out from my nipples instead of milk. The nurses assured me that it was normal because breastmilk comes from blood anyways, and that my body wasn't able to convert the blood to breastmilk thus the reason blood was flowing out my milking duct instead. Scary.. (._.) Honestly I was traumatized and opt for formula milk instead, which till now, I think was a bad move. I read that once you've given formula to your baby and stopped/reduced pumping breastmilk for your baby, the milk won't produce as much as it should. I hope I won't do the same mistake again for my second one. I WANT TO FULLY BREASTFEED!!! >.< It's not easy, but I will give my best! No more feeling traumatized or scared or complaining or bitching about how hard it is. Huhuu..

( ; - ; )

Anyways, most of the online shops I found on the net gives me ridiculously high priced items. I don't fancy spending more than RM100 for a single piece of clothing… Urhm wait, more like I DON'T WANT to spend so much on clothes. I can't afford it no matter how they claim that their goods are of high quality. Plus, the designs aren't really that nice either (for me at least). After several minutes of browsing through, finally, I am so glad I bumped into Mammahouse.com, an online maternity/nursing and baby shop that gives affordable price for the stuff I need. Yays! It really is affordable and most importantly, very comfortable! Good enough for me. Doesn't need to be branded. I don't go for brands. I just go for price, and comfort, and looks nice enough to me. Yays cheapskate mom. XD

First time buying stuff there, I only bought two new maternity. Their service is very efficient and fast. I got my stuff delivered the next working day. (i ordered it on Saturday before noon, and got it on Monday but if I ordered it on Monday, for sure I'm gonna get it the next day!) It's a bit too big for me but it IS comfortable. Had to send the pants to be altered. The length is too much for me. (or my legs might be too short for average ahaha..haa… I'm 151cm by the way) I wouldn't recommend buying long pants here because you can get better designs of maternity pants at AEON (previously Jaya Jusco) for roughly the same price. Not sure about their short pants though.

Satisfied with the first purchase in October, I decided to buy more in November. Tried out their nursing bra. I bought this one.

image from mammahouse.com

Tried it out, VERY NICE. Much nicer than those I bought at AEON after I had Shareese. And the design is really cute too.  Gonna stock up more on the
nursing bras. :3 Love~

Here's some of the stash I bought. There's a yellow training pants for Shareese. I recommend that if you want to try and potty train your toddler. The lower part has thicker fabric on it so if your toddler "accidentally" piss, the damage won't be as much on the surface he sits on, but he will still feel soaked and uncomfortable and will (probably) won't want to pee in his pants again. XD

Stuff bought on November 2012 from mammahouse <3

So yeah, if you're planning to buy some affordable maternity/nursing wear, do check out Mammahouse. Recommended by a cheapskate-money-saving-mom like me. :p

His favourite past time

Little one has been so addicted to his iPad. Although it was initially bought for his second birthday by my mom to let him learn alphabets, numbers and stuff from the various apps that is available for iOS, but he has been using it mostly to play games (some educational games, mostly it's either the racing game or Subway Surfers). If not, it's youtube. It amazes me how he learns how to use the gadgets so fast. He knows his way with the gadgets. Honestly, deep inside I am proud. Though I think it's nothing special and kids nowadays, they do learn really fast!

Sometimes when he gets bored of his iPad, he'll ask to play his Papa's phone. One thing that's troubling me is he's a sore loser. XD And he gets frustrated easily when things doesn't go how he wants it to be.

I love to play games~

But if I lose, this is how I will become T_T

He'll throw tantrums.
Or Sulk.

SO CUTE!!! XD
ok.. at times it's annoying. but still~ <3

The path is harder than I thought

So I got a call from UiTM the other day about having to come for an interview at FSSR for the TPM (Tenaga Pengajar Muda) or Young Lecturer's Scheme where they offer you scholarship to do your masters programme and a chance to work with them as a lecturer. I applied for the animation department but honestly, when I signed up for the programme I seriously wondered why is the animation department being interviewed under the FSSR faculty (Faculty of Arts and Design) when I thought UiTM has already have their own Film & Animation Faculty called the Faculty of Animation and Creative Technology (FACT). I hesitated to apply at first but husband keeps on saying that there is no harm in trying so I applied, and got called for the first interview yesterday.

It was quite a horrible (yet educational) experience for me.

First of all, they asked me to prepare a 5 minute mock teaching in English and since I am going for the animation department I thought why not prepare some slides that shows some interactive stuff regarding the topic. I wanted to do a simple explanation on the 12 basic principles of animation but decided to go with the 2D animation process instead. Took me 2 nights to finish my slide. I wanted to do it in swf format but decided I don't have much time so I just stick with Powerpoint. Faster, less tedious, and time saving.

I arrived quite early at the faculty. Saw my name at one of the interviewing room with the help of the staff there and I waited for the interviewers to call out my name. Seems like there's 8 other candidates for the animation department. (and 60+ more for other department under the same faculty) It kinda surprise me that it is stated there that the animation department is actually more for game design rather than film animation (which I think I have more score with. I am basically clueless about game design.) So anyways, just try out my luck and see how it goes.

They started calling for the video editing candidates first, and then photography, and then printing.. and then... it's lunch time. Guess what? Only the first few candidates manage to make do of their mock teaching materials while the rest had to just do an impromptu due to technical issues. The computer they have does not seem to function and the projector went kaput.

What's worst?
There was no whiteboard as a teaching aid.
Great.
How do they expect us to do a mock teaching just like that?
(Ok so maybe we could be a little bit more creative on this but most of the stuff I wanted to show are digital)

Good thing I brought my husband's netbook. But the problem is.. it's a NETBOOK. 10" netbook. Friggin small compared to an image on the wall projected out from the computer via the projector. pbfft.... UiTM.. when will you be more prepared. World Class University? Oh hell yeah.

As time pass by, I get more fidgety. Part of me says I need this job. I want this opportunity, for the sake of my growing family. I asked around how they did with the interview and what did the interviewers asked them. They told me the interviewers are not even interested to listen to how they teach with mock teaching but more interested on their capabilities. They asked questions about your background and what not. Okay this is a bit uncalled for but seems fine. Feels a bit annoyed that the 2 nights I spent finishing the slides are less worthwhile now.

Then,

My time came. They asked me to introduce myself so I did. Since most of the candidates are from the department itself, i clearly told them that they might not be familiar with me compared to other candidates because I am from the architecture faculty and not the arts and design faculty. They were surprised and some reacted quite well to it. Then I told them about my working experience and what projects I have been handling and showed them some video clips of the work I had done through my netbook. Yes. They said the video is small and hard to view on the netbook. I don't have a choice. Atleast they could view it rather than just me talking bullshit without interactive materials.

Then out of the blue, one interviewer asked me what software did I use to do the animation and I told them I work mostly in Flash. He then asked me if I have skills in with 3D software. I said I could do modeling in 3D but I can't really animate using 3D software because I work my animation mostly with Flash. And just like that I could see the changes in their faces. One interviewer even told me they are actually looking for people with 3D capabilities and that there is no market for 2D animation in this country.

Seriously? I was appalled by that statement but I couldn't fight back because partly I think it's true, though come to think about it.. if there is no market for 2D animation in this country, why are there still 2D animation company still looking for animators, storyboard artists and recruiting more staff to their workforce? Why are they still receiving lots of contracts and projects from overseas to animate 2D series? Why is Animasia Studio still holding strong and still growing? Then I think again.. maybe the interviewers/lecturers don't really know much about the industry. Or that they only think of it in the gaming industry.

And just like that I ended my interviewing session.
Filled with dissatisfaction towards the attitude of the interviewers.
Filled with dissatisfaction that they did not state clearly that this is for gaming animation in the application form.

It's okay.
I will try again.

--

on another note....

I think Malaysia (especially it's public university) need a proper institute that would teach proper animation technique. I am already in the animation industry, and the candidates that applied for work who graduated from the public universities who studied multimedia or graphics could hardly animate. We have to train them from zero. They don't even know the basic principles of animation. And that makes me wonder what have they been learning in uni? What have the lecturers been teaching? They only learn how to use the software but hardly know how to make use of it. And most candidates who applied for work could hardly draw.

DRAW.
They cannot draw.

I guess that's why 3D is more popular than 2D because you don't really need drawing skills to animate. Just be a puppeteer.

sad.

Fever Fever

Shareese is down with fever. He's losing appetite and what worries me is his vomiting. Everytime he drinks milk, he will vomit it out again but only at night due to the wind in his stomach. Since he hardly eats any solids at all during the day, I guess he accumulates wind and this makes him push out whatever goes in afterwards. *sigh* The way he vomits reminds me so much of myself when I'm suffering from gastric. T_T

I think I should be really thankful. Eventhough he's feverish, with cough and flu, and the vomiting and sudden attack of diarrhea on Sunday, he still appears to be active and mischievous. Just a little bit cranky. :(

Mummy, ai du wan eat food. Ai sick sick.. wuwuu..

It's HERE! My First Photobook by Pixajoy!

Yes yes!! It's finally here. I couldn't believe it would be this big. Err.. the description does say the photobook will be printed out in 11" x 8.5" but the size I had in mind with that figure was about an A4. Turns out it's much bigger than that. I think it's quite worth the money (provided you buy with discounts via Groupon or Living Social) =p  I bought mine to be printed out in matte paper, but the pictures turn out to be a bit dull. Mostly because the lack of quality from the photos I took. I think if the picture quality was a bit higher, printing it out on any paper shouldn't be a problem. In case you guys were thinking of getting one, try out the glossy paper print first, just to be on the safe side.

Nice right? : ) LOL I cincai do this in 1 hour..You guys could do better! XD

My how you've grown

I almost forgot that I bought an online Personalised Hardcover Photo Book by Pixajoy via Groupon. The groupon is going to expired in three days and I've just finished combined, compose, arrange and *ahem* design (yeah right, just click, drag and drop) the photo book. Waiting for it to finish uploading to the server. While waiting I can't help but looking at how much my little one has grown. I was scouring through his baby pictures till his recent ones and he surely has been "stretched". From a tiny bubbly round "Michelin Mascot" to a tall Ben 10. :p

See for yourself.

Simple Little Things

Last Sunday was the day that we did one of the things I loved the most. Cooking with my husband. Honestly saying, I am not the kind of person who loves to spend so much time cooking, well mainly because I am not much of a great cook. Another thing is because of time. I usually reach home from work 9pm, the earliest I could comeback is by 8pm, and that is if I leave the office sharp at 7pm (yes my work finishes that late) and that I don't need to pick Shareese up from my mom's because husband had picked it up first.

So since it's the weekend and I have all the time in the world, I cook. For him. Lunch time was Ikan Tiga Rasa. Followed the recipe from A Mummy's Guide to Finger-Licking Food and he loved it sooooooo much!! He said it's the best dish I've made so far! Happy!! Last time I tried to make it too but from another recipe and it didn't turn out so well but this time it's a success. I love the taste of the fish sauce.

Siakap Tiga Rasa

He promised to make dinner that night. Guess what's for dinner? His very own recipe of Tandoori marinated oven baked Chicken. I made the coleslaw and grilled up some sausages. Heated up some canned mushroom soup for little one as well. He enjoys watching the cars on his plate more than he enjoys eating. Haihzzz this little boy. So susah nak makan!

Our portion
Shareese's portion. Ofcourse, tak habis. Picky eater...
Sometimes doing simple little things like this is enough to make you happy for the whole week.

Safety First

We have always wanted to get a new toddler carseat for Shareese ever since he was 6 month old but due to our lack of budget back then,we just settled for a "third-hand" carseat that my dad got from his boss. Yes, third hand. His boss handed it down to my dad and now we're using it. It's a Britax carseat. Still sturdy as ever though it lacks some cushioning compared to most toddler carseats sold widely nowadays. Well as long as it serves the purpose and keeps my little one safe and sound (most importantly it keeps him from running around wildly in the moving car),we're happy with it.

Now that we're expecting another baby on the way, and alhamdulillah with some extra cash savings and bonus, we've decided to get a new carseat for the baby (and in the mean time, for Shareese to use). It would be great if the carseat can be used from newborn till toddler but not many carseats provide such criteria. Mostly it's either the newborn carseat (which also serves the purpose as a mobile rocker) or toddler carseat to be used for babies who is strong enough to sit. My husband has been doing some studies and research on baby carseats and we found out that Maxicosi Opal fits the criteria. It can be used from 0 month baby till about 4 years old. It really is a bit pricey but for me it's OK to spend a little more for your baby's safetym durability and comfort.Lucky for us, Mamours was having a sale last weekend and we grabbed the opportunity and bought the carseat for a much cheaper price. :D I'm a happy mommy.

What i love most about this seat is it's thick padding that keeps my baby comfortable and also the head support which keeps my baby's head from swaying sideways when he sleeps. The old Britax careseat doesn't come with this and everytime Shareese dozed off in his seat,I feel so sorry for him because it looks like his neck is in so much stress though they say baby's are really flexible and they hardly feel muscle stress or strain but i can't help but feel bad for him. Most importantly I think it's a good investment because I can use the same carseat for my soon to be born baby from the moment he got out to this world till the day he will not need to use a carseat anymore.

For the mean time,Shareese will be "borrowing" his little sibling's carseat till the baby is born.

LEFT : Shareese in his old Britax carseat. He usually sleeps in
this pose on the carseat to support his neck
RIGHT: Shareese smiling happily in the new carseat. Yays!!

Restarting

Hulla~ Ayez here, trying to start blogging again. I used to have another blog on a personal hosted site but I don't think I can (or want to) afford paying for it when I can just do it at a free site. Unless I want the personalized shorter URL. (which at this point is not really what I care about hahahahaa). Actually the main reason I shifted back to a free blog hosting site is because I wasn't updating often on my personal hosted site. So why waste money when you don't have the commitment for it?

Before the days of blogging on a personal hosted site, I have another blog hosted here on blogspot too which was my uni-days rantings. Come to think of it, I was so immature when writing blogs back then. What was I even thinking........... This time I made a blog dedicated to rantings and sharing experiences about being a mom. A rookie mom to be exact. Wait... A working rookie mom of your not-so-average mother who never thought she would love and enjoy the experiences of motherhood. =) Honestly, I never knew being a mom would be this awesomely rewarding. I would never trade anything else to be in this position. Ever.

I have a two-year old son named Shareese Hamzah who is very funny and never fail to make me laugh everyday by his mischief and unexpected behavior. I am waiting for my second child which I hope would bring joy and wonders to me and my husband as how Shareese did. Hoping I would be able to share more of our stories here with the readers and would love to know more about your similar experiences too.
